Loie Fuller (1862 - 1928) was a famous performer in America, but found a home in Paris. Among her friends were Toulouse-Lautrec, Marie Curie and Queen Marie of Romania. She was a regular performer at the Folies-Bergere. Fuller combined her choreography with silk costumes illuminated by multi-colored lighting of her own design. In fact, she held several patents related to stage lighting including chemical compounds for creating color gel and the use of chemical salts for luminescent lighting and costumes.
